Sizing agents are paper chemicals for controlling wetting and penetration of paper and paper board by liquids. Their main use is the hydrophobation of the paper surface and thus the improvement of printability.

Retention and drainage aids and fixing agents (fixatives) are paper chemicals to guarantee a high yield of fibres and fillers. They assure a quick dewatering of the stock in the wet end section of the paper machine. In addition they influence the formation of the paper web.
Fixing agents (fixatives) neutralize anionic trash and prevent deposits of sticky particles (pitch, stickies) in the paper production process.
