Employee profile

At the heart of BTC here in Cologne are people from all over Germany and all over Europe. The constant expansion of our business activities and the measures taken to hone our competitive edge are the main reasons for our ever growing workforce.

As a European distribution company with its own administrative structures, BTC Speciality Chemical Distribution employs international graduates from a wide variety of fields – BTC in Cologne, for example, employs graduates ranging from chemistry and mechanical engineering to business administration, textiles and clothing.

Our sales force is made up of specialists from a variety of backgrounds, from forwarding agents, wholesalers and import-export merchants to IT specialists, industrial administrators, office administrators and office communications administrators. Employees are trained in-house in conjunction with BASF SE. This means that BASF trainees complete different stages of their training at BTC in Cologne and at other members of the BASF Group, thereby gaining insights into many different areas of the company.

Our employees are not only offered development opportunities within BASF SE but also within the BTC Group. In this way, our employees have the chance to become better acquainted with our European sister companies by means of job rotation.

The basis for this is an honest evaluation of every situation at the outset. It is important for each and every one of us to give and receive open and fair feedback. For this reason, BTC uses feedback systems for all managers to supplement appraisal interviews with employees.

BASF SE and BTC Germany are currently introducing a new bonus system for salaried employees. This links voluntary bonuses more closely to the financial success of the company and the personal performance of individual employees.With the new bonus system, BASF and BTC Germany continue to allow their employees to share in the success of the company above and beyond their agreed pay scale – a development which was designed to boost performance rather than reduce costs.

The mandatory appraisal interviews, which include a performance evaluation of each employee, guarantee that uniform criteria are adhered to. We ensure that all managers are qualified to use the system.

With flexible working times and forms together with process-oriented and team-oriented work practices, we offer our employees ideal conditions for getting the most out of both their family and professional life.
