BTC symposium: Our products for the plastics industry

A high-quality plastic chair is to retain its bright colours even when used outdoors. And it may not end up as a huge fireball when coming into contact with open flames. These requirements are just two examples of the properties that plastics need to fulfil when used in practical applications. That is why a number of additives are used during manufacturing. At its Customer symposium held in June in Spain, BTC, the sales company of BASF SE, presented the newest products in this segment. The spectrum ranges from antioxidants/process stabilisers, light stabilizers, chain extenders, flame retardants, pigments and optical brighteners to antistatics.

The widest additive portfolio for the Plastic Industry

"Contact with small and medium-sized customers are of particular importance to us. At our Customer conference, they can tell us about their experiences and wishes during personal meetings," reports Juan Tortosa, Distribution Business Iberia & Chemicals Europe at BTC. Service is becoming increasingly important in today's market, where the price is becoming the deciding factor. "Its good to see an expert describing our products," says Tortosa.

Among other things, the symposium attendees learned from Ramón Masvidal, BTC Speciality Chemicals Distribution, how they can stabilise their processes and which additives protect their products from light and weather influences. Masvidal spoke to representatives from very different industry sectors. Attendees included manufacturers of masterbatches and compounds as well as plastic converters from different sectors.

At a glance:

  • The symposium in Barcelona introduced the range of pigments and additives from BASF for manufacturing plastic products to the 30 participants.
  • The spectrum offered by BTC for the plastics industry includes process and light stabilisers, antioxidants, chain extenders, flame retardants, pigments, optical brighteners, nucleating agents, metal deactivators, waxes, and others.
