New in the BTC portfolio: EMGARD® RW-A

EMGARD® RW-A is recommended for applications which require measures against heat and wear problems. This includes applications in final gear drives, differentials for heavy equipment, in railways, trams, trucks and similar vehicles.

The expansion of rail and highway transport network is an ongoing process. Thus increasing distances have to be managed successfully. Final gear drives are exposed to high stress daily. EMGARD® RW-A is an API GL-5 synthetic gear lubricant designed for extended drain service and improved wear protection in comparison to typical petroleum 80W-90 gear lubricants. The high film strength and the superior low temperature performance of EMGARD® RW-A both result in longer gear life. The anti-rust and anti-corrosion properties of this extreme pressure lubricant further promote extended gear and bearing life.

EMGARD® RW-A is formulated using a synthetic base-stock which has a high viscosity index and an exceptionally low pour point. This lubricant contains extreme pressure additives, as well as rust, oxidation and corrosion inhibitors to protect gears and bearings operated under a wide variety of load conditions. The high and low temperature performance of this product exceeds those of conventional SAE 80W-90, SAE 85W-90 gear lubricants.

EMGARD® RW-A is characterized by the following properties:

  • Very good low and high temperature behavior.
  • Excellent protection against steel and yellow metal corrosion.
  • Forms a durable film with resistance to humidity, temperature variations and corrosion.
  • Outstanding gear protection against scuffing, pitting and micro-pitting.
  • Extended drain intervals for less oil disposal and less maintenance time.

A performance comparison on video shows the low-temperature behavior of EMGARD® RW-A to a mineral oil group II oil in a real axle body at -40°C.

Due to the high viscosity of this group II mineral oil at a temperature of -40 degrees the high thread formation is obvious from the very beginning.
