The moistening agents used in offset printing ensure that colour does not reach places where it does not belong. BTC Europe now offers two new surface-active agents – N-Octyl pyrrolidone (NOP) and 2,4,7,9-Tetramethyl-5-decyne-4,7-diol (TMDD) – that fulfil their function even more reliably thanks to their moistening agent.
NOP is a particularly environmentally-friendly organic heterocyclic product. "What is most important is that NOP reduces surface tension," explains Juan Tortosa, responsible at BTC Europe for sales in Spain and Portugal. Thanks to NOP, the respective moistening agents, and thus the colour, cling to the printing cylinder extremely well, while any splashes of colour are also prevented from sticking to surfaces that are not to be printed. "In addition, NOP is an ideal cross-linker for moistening agents that contain very little or no isopropanol," says Tortosa. NOP is extremely effective and economical. Up to 2.5 percent of NOP can be added. As little as 0.1 percent already reduces the surface tension significantly.
Fewer surface defects
TMDD is also a special additive for reducing surface tension, as well as ensuring that blisters and pores do not result in faulty printing results. TMDD is only water-soluble to a minimal extent and is a good pigment dispersion agent. The defoaming additive is exclusively available from BTC Europe, the BASF sales network for special chemicals and finishing polymers.
Juan Tortosa, Distribution Business Iberia & Chemicals Europe (juan.tortosa-pons at btc-europe.com), will gladly answer any questions regarding these two new products from the Additives segment.
