Like everything else, sewage treatment plants today have to work more efficiently and cost-effectively. Operators have different approaches to achieve this. One of them is dewatering the sludge left behind by the treatment process: The less residual liquid it contains, the less is the quantity to be disposed of. That saves costs – and helps the environment. BASF SE has now developed Zetag® ULTRA for this purpose, a new range of flocculants with a high dewatering capacity even at low doses. This exciting new product was presented by BASF Water Solutions to the visitors of the IFAT in Munich (May 5th to 9th, 2014), the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management. The new products can be purchased from BTC Europe, BASF SE's sales company for special chemicals and finishing polymers, which was also present at the stand.
In addition to the new product range, BASF and BTC also presented other products for the water industry at the fair, from other polymer flocculants to anticorrosion agents to defoamers. These products are used, for instance, in the paper, food, pharmaceutical and chemical industry as well as in the automotive, petrochemical and steel industry. "Our portfolio of chemicals includes products used in all processes of municipal and industrial water treatment, be it for the purification of raw water for the production of potable water, the treatment of waste water or the reduction of sewage sludge volumes", says Walter Schneider, BTC Sales Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. "This gave us a point of contact with each visitor to our stand." And successfully so: During the five days at the fair, Schneider and his international team from Northern Europe and Germany talked not only to many long-standing customers but also made numerous new contacts.
