Bacteria attack the surface of plastics, rubber and synthetic fibers and can result in discolouration, staining, odor, biofilm formation, and cross contamination. Eventually it can even result in deterioration of mechanical properties, increased maintenance or reduced service life of the finished product. BTC offers integrated solutions to address undesired growth of microorganisms. BTC’s product selection includes both, organic and inorganic antimicrobials that are targeted on specific microorganisms.
Irgaguard® B 5000 series is an inorganic, silver-zeolite based antimicrobial. The special zeolite design allows controlled silver-ion release. It is highly active against a wide range of bacteria, mold and yeast and is designed for use in polymers processed at temperatures up to 500° C. It is also optimized against light induced discolouration. Irgaguard ® B 6000 series is similar to the B 5000 product but contains an inorganic, silver-glass based antimicrobial.
Irgaguard® B 7000 series comprises of a special glass matrix which allows controlled silver-ion release. It is highly active against a wide range of bacteria, mold and yeast and especially suitable for thin articles like fibers for textile applications and transparent applications. It is designed for use in polymers processed at temperatures up to 500° C and optimized against light induced discolouration.
Irgaguard® antimicrobials can significantly contribute to reducing odor formation that results from microorganisms. It is particularly noticeable in applications such as sportswear, shoe insoles and waste bins. Irgaguard® antimicrobials can help reduce biofilm formation from microorganisms, especially in water-contact applications such as water tanks, pipes, seals, gaskets, filters and scrubbers, where a so-called biofilm formation takes place. Irgaguard® antimicrobials can prevent staining that result from microorganisms, molds, bacteria or extracellular dye stuff, i.e. metabolites released by the microorganisms.
