Magazine covers, bookcovers, packaging materials – all are intended to attract potential buyers. Therefore, the printed sheets are refined by a film to add both shine and protection. Special adhesives are used to stick the paper and film together. For their production, BTC Europe, BASF SE's sales company for specialty chemicals, offers a new dispersion now: Acronal® 3640 X. "Just like all other dispersions in the Acronal® product range, Acronal® 3640 X is a raw material for water-based adhesives. It is suitable for laminating food packaging with a glossy film," explains Klaus Braun, Business Manager Dispersions for Adhesives & Construction Europe at BTC Europe.
The combination of printed sheets and films is increasingly being used in food packaging, such as in viewing windows. "But all materials that might have contact with food are subject to particularly strict regulatory giudelines," says Braun. That’s why the self-curing dispersion Acronal® 3640 X has a new, specially developed crosslinking system that allows approval in accordance with BfR XIV and FDA 175.105.
Furthermore, Acronal® 3640 X provides excellent adhesion on films and print, as well as outstanding machine running properties. "These properties are a feature of all other products from the Acronal® series, but with its FDA approval, the new dispersion completes our broad portfolio for glossy film lamination,” says Braun.
